URGENT MESSAGE

I have been made aware of the following message from NYCC (06.04.2017) .

We have been made aware of an on going social media site which children are accessing which causes great concern and poses harm. The Blue Whale Challenge is a social media site that is reportedly leading some young children to cut themselves and in some extreme cases could be leading them to commit suicide. North Yorkshire Police and one county secondary school have become aware of this from another authority.

The social media website called, 'Blue Whale' -  young people are approached via chat rooms, they are then directed to the site where private chats are taking place and individuals are giving them tasks to complete. One task is reportedly getting children to cut an image of a blue whale into their skin. There are also concerns that the last task they are asked to do is commit suicide.

Please be aware of the  'Blue Whale Challenge' and be aware of warning signs or concerns that pupils may be sharing information about this with their friends.  If you have any concerns please direct them to Ms Young.

Carnagill Community Primary School wants all children to be safe and secure in school. We follow the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Board procedures.  The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their child/ren.  However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures).  We aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents.

Miss Young and Mrs Barritt are the Designated Senior Persons for safeguarding.  If you have any concerns about the safety and well being of a child please contact either of them on 01748 833622.

Below are some links which parents might find useful to support the work we do in school at home.

Our ICT Leader is Mr Atkinson.  If you need any advice about safe use of ICT equipment at home please contact Mrs Wigham via the school office.
