Science is about curiosity and wonder. Children are naturally inquisitive about the world in which they live and we aim, through enjoyable practical activities and first hand experiences, to develop skills and a body of knowledge.

We expect the children to predict, question, hypothesise and understand the concepts of a scientific investigation. Children may work individually or collaboratively in a group, where they develop their personal qualities and investigative skills.

The children at Carnagill work scientifically to understand and follow the aims of the National Curriculum. We have Science Superheroes who help us work scientifically in class. Trips and visitors also enrich our curriculum. For example, we had a Cosmodome in school for children to find out about the cosmos. We are currently working on an initiative by the BBC called Terrific Scientific. We are very excited about the prospect of gaining BBC Terrific Scientific School of Excellence Status, and being in with a chance of meeting a famous scientist in our own school. Watch this space!

The Science subject leader at Carnagill School is Mrs K Pattinson.
