Welcome to 5/6T

The class teacher is Mrs Taylor and the teaching assistant is Miss Biggins.

During the Spring term we will be welcoming a ‘real’ Viking into school to help us understand who the Vikings were; why they invaded Britain and the impact they had on our country. Our book art project this term will be based on factual research into this topic. In science we will be studying ‘materials’ and carrying out experiments to test various theories, including links to real life by looking at how companies market and test their products.

In mathematics, we are moving onto long multiplication and division, as well as applying the four rules of number to fractions. Decimals, properties of circles and constructing arcs, as well as revision will also be covered. In English we will be undertaking a narrative writing project as well as linking various genre of writing to our class story (‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’). Our grammar and punctuation will relate to this whilst our spellings are based on the Year 5 and 6 curriculum. We also hope to include debating in our lessons this term and lots more drama, which we all enjoy, Of course, we are also enjoying all the other subjects in the curriculum, including developing musical notation, making Viking purses, investigating world religions, swimming in PE and extending our French vocabulary to giving instructions, studying the departments of Paris and naming parts of the body. An action-packed term!

To celebrate our achievements and work this half term, we had a very special visitor come into school - an authentic Viking! He taught us the gruesome ways people were executed in Viking times and had a chance to look and practice with some Viking weapons and artefacts. We looked great in our Viking costumes! It was a brilliant way to end our topic.
